I once disagreed with a teacher about the way that we were taught in a mathematics lesson. The teacher expected us to do the worksheet with no prior knowledge on the subject of Algebra, then once we had ‘finished’ the teacher explained how to do the worksheet. My classmates and I found this most puzzling because in theory we could just muck about all lesson with no way of working through the sheet, then fill in the answers with teacher. We agreed that for us to be challenged and for us to actually learn how to do the work, we must first have a basic understanding of what must be done to achieve the correct answers.
I sometimes disagree with some of the things we are taught in maths. A lot of the content is usually unnessesary for outside school life. For example, I question when we would ever need to use pythagoras when we leave school, unless we become another maths teacher. Others probably will disagree, saying it is useful for general knowledge etc, but I regard a lot of it as mostly pointless. My dad is an accountant, and some of the things I do for homework he can't even do! However, maths is obviously a nessesary subject, but I think we should probably focus on more relevent, useful problems and equations that will help us in later life.
I actually never wondered about why I learn what I learn at school because thats mainly what is school is about, to learn things. But I'm sometimes wondering about why it is taught in a particular way because I know how I learn best by myselfe and just think that they could teach some things in a different way. I also quite often disagre with the content of a lesson because I think that it is useless.
I learn so that i can get a job, then get money. Also so that i can get by in life in general. I have never disagreed with any of the content that my teachers have taught me, but only with the way that I have been taught. This is probably because they stick to the curriculum, and because kristin usually has good teachers.
I have often wondered if the things we learn at school will really be necessary in our futures. Such as will we really need to know binomials or all the quotes from a certain poem in our lives? In fact I believe that the way we learn at school is basically just compiled of memorising. We have facts and theories thrown at us and without having them explained properly, without truly understanding what we are given we have to memorise them. Then as we enter our exams we empty our brains of all the memorised knowledge and a few weeks after our exams that knowledge is gone. So what is the point in all this?
I often disagree with teachers, mainly because I enjoy debating and listening to other peoples idea's. Sometimes with a teacher who teaches a certain way, I will just switch off and not even bother just because I know it's not the way I learn.
I believe that if you're not truly passionate about a certain subject at school, or if you're not going to use a certain subject in everyday life, then what is the point of studying it at school? We should view learning at school as a fantastic opportunity to go far in life, not as a chore that you're only doing because you have to.
I believe that all content that is teached in lessons throught all years of school are tought is such a way that you can study anything after school and have the knowledge to persue what you want. As a result of this students are tought things in subjects that they might never use again in their life but another student might use everyday of their life.

I once wondered about why I learn what I learn at school because I never thought I would use them in real life.
But now I know why because my father had told me.
He said that the history has evolved through thousands of years and that the area of knowledge that human beings discovered has evolved as well, and why we learn what we learn today is because we believe it's important.
We gained wider knowledge in human brains and how we can make it as efficient as possible, and the studies we do seem to improve the brain effectively.
I've disagreed a few times, but usually ended up wrong…
When I was in Vietnam in the summer holidays on a trip with the school, we visited a few schools. It was really interesting to see the different learning styles. In New Zealand, the teachers openly welcome any criticisms that the students may have against the teacher's teaching, and are often welcome to challenge what the teacher has said. In Vietnam (being a buddhist country) the adults are known as the superiors, and therefore the students will usually not challenge the teacher's statements, regardless if they agree or not.
Really interesting to read your posts. I have a hunch that TOK will help you be more conscious of what's going on in your other lessons - the good and also the bad (should there be any….). Your experience as an IB student is all about knowledge - learning it, understanding it, manipulating it, demonstrating it. Nice start folks :-)
I have often disagreed with the practicality of various topics that we are taught in mathematics such as parabolas and sigma notation because we are highly unlikely to require the use of these things in the future. Also, I belive that if you genuinely do not enjoy a subject and you have a teacher that you do not get along with, you will never be able to achieve high marks at that particular subject. I do disagree with teachers because they are paid to teach the sylabus so, it is not their fault if they teach us things that are unessaccary.
I always thought that we learnt specific skills and knowledge in school to help us once we become individuals and go off on our own. I've never really thought of it in much depth though. I don't usually disagree with a teacher about the content of the lesson.
